Fox Comet Gig Live cape Town

Fox Comet Biography - 2011

This Cape Town outfit has without doubt one of the freshest and most exciting sounds on the South African music scene. A bold statement that may be, but the four Melodic Funk-Rock musicians that make up Fox Comet have made big waves in the local music scene over the three years they've gigged in and around Cape Town, and are now regular acts at some of the biggest live venues in Cape Town.

They have opened for household names such as Arno Carstens, Evolver 1, Wrestlerish, Hog Hoggidy Hog, Captain Stu and 7th Son. In February 2010 and 2011, Fox Comet played at the well known Up the Creek music festival. Both times they were met with an emphatic reception from the thousand odd music lovers dancing to their tunes in the river. In April 2010 they represented the Western Cape in the Durex Ultimate Battle of the Bands final in Johannesburg, after winning their two Cape Town heats. Later in the year they topped it all off by playing at Synergy festival at the first-ever LMG stage. In April 2011 they were invited to play Rock the River Easter Beast as a main stage act and will be performing at Synergy Live 2011 on the main stage.

The band, made up of Rob Coutts on vocals, Stephane Corneloup on guitar, Nick Catto on bass and Kyle Gray on drums, have established a sound unlike any other funk or rock bands on the scene.

Gray, a Zildjian and Mapex endorsed drummer, is a raw talent behind the drums and has been described a ‘madman’ with an infectious energy. A nutter for all types of beats and one who loves going wild behind the kit, Kyle is the perfect man to hold down the rhythm section for Fox Comet.
Guitarist Stephane Corneloup brings both amazing musicianship and experience to the group – the former lead guitarist for French rock outfit, Simili Skaï Club, Corneloup has settled in Cape Town and, with his pitch-perfect ear, has helped mould the Comet’s unmistakable sound.

The final two pieces in the puzzle, bassist Nick Catto and vocalist Rob Coutts were school-mates Rondebosch Boys' before realising their dream to play music together. Making it all look so easy, Nick lives for performing music on stage and it was his drive to be part of something special which is at the heart of the Fox Comet movement. His smooth grooves on the bass guitar help keep the crowd bouncing throughout their performance.

Finally, the man who fronts the band is the ‘Ginger Ninja’ himself. Rob Coutts can only be described as a dynamic performer - bringing unrivalled energy as well as a perfect tone to the lyrics, Coutts rounds off the Fox Comet crew and is the final piece in a truly brilliant puzzle. Coutts was quite simply born to be on stage and, whether playing to 50 or 5000, brings the same level of energy and performance every time he steps out on stage.

With such great success so early in their career as a band the sky seems to be the limit for these four talented Capetonians.

Fresh, exciting and determined – Fox Comet are here to stay and will be getting crowds on their feet throughout Cape Town and South Africa for as long as you will have them…
